I have always made fun of blogs. It used to be that, when someone told me they were either blogging or reading a blog, I would immediately (and often vocally) label them a D and D computer geek. From this conclusion I would form (and often vocalize) even more conclusions, like the ironclad belief, based on the mere fact of the person's blog writing or viewing, that the person must just spend 17 hours a day on the computer, crisply divided among D and D games (duh), software discussion chatrooms, virtual proms, and porn. Basically, I was then what my dad is now - a technologically deficient old-schooler who refers to the internet as the world wide web and can't open an email attachment without also opening 19 windows of internet explorer through excessive quadruple-clicking.
This was, of course, several years ago and my attitude toward things like blogs has since evolved. I'm still not sure, really, that there are any "blogs" that I read every day or even on a regular basis. Well, maybe this one. Instead of blogs, I tend more toward "collection" type sites like this, this, this for "news," and this, this, this, and of course this and this for my sports (and specifically college football) obsession. For funny, I am a big fan of this and this, and it is always important to keep an eye on my enemies, so I go here and here on a fairly regular basis, too. Is this how you are supposed to do this blog thing, rapid-fire, seemingly coke-induced linking?
Whatever my past and current internet browsing habits, I decided to start a blog. Perhaps it's because I have a lot of random thoughts and feel badly making my girlfriend shoulder the enormous burden of hearing them herself. Perhaps it is because my thoughts and ideas are so well articulated and reasoned that it would be a public disservice to deprive the rest of the world of them. Or perhaps it is none of that, and feel the need to add to the world yet another idiotic viewpoint.
Anyway, about me. I am a former NFL running back who currently practices neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic. I had the pleasure of serving in two Presidential administrations, and I invented the Slim Jim (snap into it, not the get-in-your-car thing), the filibuster, and left-hand turns. All of that is false, completely false. I am a 33 year-old guy from Ohio who lives in southern California. I have a fantastic girlfriend with whom I live in a condo in downtown San Diego. For the past eight years I have used marginally adequate skills to practice law, and, make no mistake, practice it is.
I have no idea about what I will blog. Though I hold some fairly strong political and social convictions, such serious topics likely will not appear much here (unless I am goaded). College football is a passion of mine, as it is for most people born in Ohio, so that topic is almost certain to be explored here. I have various thoughts about the wonderful State of California that I intend to share with you. My girlfriend's name is Lindsey - she surely will come up here as well. Mostly I am guessing that this blog will just be entertaining stories from my otherwise ordinary life and the random thoughts I have about every day events. And drugs. Humongous, ungodly amounts of drugs. Kidding, of course. I have never done drugs before, and I am not even really sure how to do them. Ok, off we go...
